African beat resonates through Prep

The world-famous Watoto Children’s Choir brought their UK & Ireland tour to Brentwood Preparatory School yesterday. The Ugandan music and dance group, who have performed at Buckingham Palace and the White House, put on three shows for the Preparatory School and enthralled both pupils and teachers with their enthusiasm and energy.

Watoto Children’s Choirs have travelled extensively since 1994, sharing a message of hope for Africa’s orphans and widows. The children are accompanied by a group of adult performers and technicians and are currently on a six-month tour of the UK.

The choir invited pupils to learn dances from the group and were accompanied by traditional Ugandan instruments as they performed. The group’s leader then asked children to vote for the teachers they would like to see on stage and Headmaster Jason Whiskerd, and teachers Miss Holt and Mrs Woodford, all performed with vigour to much amusement from the pupils.

In the evening, the choir performed for Prep parents who were joined by parents from St Thomas of Canterbury Junior School, in Brentwood, and members of the Sawyers Church congregation.

Our heartfelt thanks go out the Watoto Choir for visiting Brentwood Preparatory School during their busy tour schedule, and we hope to be able to host them again in the future.
