The Brentwood School Big Band held a packed-out concert at St Peter's Church, Harold Wood, on Saturday 27th February in aid of charity Diabetes UK.
The world famous band raised over £2000 and delighted audiences with their renditions of jazz and swing classics and had them tapping toes and swaying shoulders. Vocal solos were provided from regulars; Sixth Formers Sophie Skinner, Amelia McLintock & Ollie Valentini, who also led his Boys' Barbershop in a special performance half way through.
Deputy Head of School Greg Humphries also took the limelight with an impressive tenor saxophone solo before a cheer from the crowd.
Although a regular annual gig for them, it would have provided the perfect practice for their forthcoming 'Battle of the Bands' Concert on Saturday 19th March at the School. They are teaming up with The Seven Steps Big Band, a London-based professional 20 piece big band that includes Music teacher, Mr Florian Cooper (OB 1995 - 2009) and Old Brentwoods Lewis Gaston (OB 1995 - 2009) and Rebecca Toft (OB 2006 - 2008). The evening is set to be a visual and atmospheric delight. The students are extremely excited about the concert and they will really appreciate your support on the night.
The concert starts at 7pm on Saturday 19th March in the Wessex Auditorium and tickets are £5 and can be ordered in advance from: www.brentwoodschool.co.uk/bigbandconcert
