Mrs Rachael Bentley is currently teaching Biology. She joined Brentwood School in 2015, having previously taught at the Anglo European School and overseas for 15 years in Thailand, Hong Kong and Dubai. She has a Pharmacology and Physiology degree and PGCE from the University of Sheffield and then gained a Diploma in Mid- Level Leadership from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In addition to her teaching, she is the Deputy Director IB

Miss Emily Aherne, BSc
Teacher of Biology

Miss Emily Aherne is a teacher of Biology and joined Brentwood School in September 2018. She has a degree in Science Education with Biology from the University of Limerick, Ireland. As a child her family will say she grew up always asking ‘why’? Her study of Biology in school answered some of those questions for her and intrigued her to know more. Miss Aherne is fascinated by the complexity of living things and how they interact with each other and the environment. She strongly believes that learning about how organisms work and live together can help humans exist with better health and with a better understanding of how to take care of the world in which we live.

Miss Jane Byrne, MSc, BSc
Teacher of Biology

Miss Byrne graduated from the University of Cardiff with a BSc (Hons) in Genetics, before completing an MSc in Medical MicroBiology at Westminster University and a PGCE. Before teaching, she worked at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford as a Microbiologist and at University College London Hospital as a Clinical Scientist of Virology.

Mrs Pamela Ebden BSc, MSc
Teacher of Biology

Mrs Ebden graduated from the University of Birmingham with a BSc (Hons) in Biology before completing an MSc in Human and Applied Physiology at King’s College, London and then a PGCE. Before teaching, she worked as a Scientific Officer at the Army Personnel Research Establishment. She is also an examiner for both OCR and IB Biology. She is Assistant Housemistress of South House and helps organise the Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

Mr Keith Gray, BSc (Hons)

Mr Gray graduated from the University of Glasgow with a BSc (Hons) in Zoology before completing a PGCE. He then taught at Woodford County High (all girls selective), Coopers Coborn and Southend Grammar School for Boys before joining us. He is Assistant Housemaster of Weald House, a Pilot Officer in the RAF section of the CCF and Deputy Head of First Year.

Mrs Kerslake graduated from the University of Sheffield with a BSc (Hons) in Biology and then completed her PGCE at the Institute of Education in London. She is an examiner for OCR responsible for moderation of A2 practical assessments.
