Brentwood School’s young team of orienteers defied the sweltering conditions to put in a sterling performance at the last outing of the season held at Wivenhoe Park on Sunday.
As temperatures soared to over 30°C, 12-year-old Freya Killilea was 1st girl home on the Yellow 1.7km run in a time of 12.37 and Sarah Prior, aged 13, was 3rd girl in a time of 16.41.
Year Three pupil Emma Bowie-Britton was 2nd girl on the Orange 2.4km route in a time of 42.21, with Jessica Mills, also in Year Three, 3rd with 51.02.
To cap off a successful morning, the team scored enough points to retain its lead at the top of the Essex and Suffolk Schools Orienteering League (ESSOL) winning the award for the best performing Senior School Team of the 2016/17 season.
In addition, 14-year-old Emma Bowie-Britton won the silver medal for being 2nd girl in her age category for the season.
