Brentwood School’s Under 13 netballers have reached the final of the School Sport Magazine National Schools’ Netball Cup – a nationwide competition open to all state and independent schools in the country!
In a close-fought semi-final on Friday, the Brentwood team worked relentlessly to beat Chester’s Christleton High School 24-18 and claim their place in the Cup Final in Bristol on Thursday, March 17th.
Team Coach Mrs Wendy Juniper said: “I am extremely proud of the team, they have worked incredibly hard throughout the year and were focused and determined to make the national final. They deserve to be there and I am delighted that their hard work has paid off! We are now in it to win it!!”
The knockout competition kicked off last September with regional matches. The final, which will see Brentwood face Godolphin & Latymer School, from Hammersmith, London, will be played at the Wellsway School in Bristol at 2pm on the 17th.
Last year’s tournament winners, Christleton High School, were tough opponents. Mrs Juniper said: “We prepared ourselves psychologically with inspirational talks and were ready to face last year’s champions - a team which had never been beaten”
Annabel Shaw played an outstanding game in the shooting circle ably assisted by Lauren Burgin and Lauren Ager. Lauren Ager also played a solid goal defence and stepped up to the mark in this position. Her versatility was truly outstanding.
Mia Citroen, who was recovering from an injury, came on and performed with her usual strength and determination; Captain Lucy Holloway held the mid court and kept the team focused throughout; Anneliese Gennings, Amelia Moule, and Emma Philpot played tenaciously and with total commitment for the 48-minute game.
Sarah Dawe was focussed and dominant as goalkeeper and turned over some crucial interceptions, while reserve Charlotte Lloyd supported and motivated the team from the side line.
