Children’s TV star leaves pupils star-struck

Brentwood Preparatory School pupils were star-struck yesterday by a visit from former pupil turned children's TV star, Chris Jarvis.

Currently presenting Stargazing on CBeebies, and fresh from another successful Pantomime season at Richmond Theatre, Chris was kind enough to take time out from his busy writing and filming schedule to give an assembly to Year 2, 3 and 4 pupils on what it takes to make a television show, including some behind-the-scenes secrets.

He didn't make it to the Assembly Hall without first having to pose for photographs and sign autographs to a clearly startled playground and mentioned several times how happy the pupils were he met throughout his visit. He brought with him a character from the popular 'Show Me, Show Me', Stuffy, who the Reception classes that he visited afterwards were also delighted to meet.

Chris was later taken on a tour of the Senior School, which he attended from 1980 to 1987, and the memories flooded back. He was particularly impressed by the new building developments that have taken place since he left, and recalled some of the great teachers that inspired him in his school days. He cited the School motto of Virtue, Learning & Manners and how much it had shaped his life, especially when having to direct some difficult and pampered theatre actors!

Headmaster of the Preparatory School, Jason Whiskerd, said: "It was fantastic that Chris Jarvis gave up his time to spend the day with us and the pupils and teachers really enjoyed meeting him. We hope he'll be able to come back next year to help us celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the Prep School."
