House Music 2019

The first major event of the School Year, and one that features more student participants than almost any other, is the House Music Competition.  This year's Competition takes place on Wednesday 25th September, starting at 6.15 pm. in the Courage Hall.

It is our tradition to invite distinguished professional musicians to adjudicate the House Music Competition; previous adjudicators have included Nick Ingman (Shakespeare in Love), Ladies in Lavender/Last of the Summer Wine composer Nigel Hess, the late Ron Goodwin (633 Squadron, The Battle of Britain), Rick Wakeman, the renowned keyboard player and Mark Armstrong the much acclaimed jazz trumpeter. It gives us great pleasure this year to welcome Pete Harrison, a regular guest conductor and presenter with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, including their ever-popular Film Gala series of concerts; recently he conducted their Classic FM – A Night at the Movies Concert at the Henley Festival.  He is a regular guest conductor and presenter with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.  Past concerts at the Royal Albert Hall include Symphonic Queen, Chilled Out Classics, Abba Spectacular and Symphonic 80s Spectacular.  Last year he made his debut with both The Philharmonia (Christmas at the Movies) and The New Russian State Symphony Orchestra with The Moscow State Choir conducting the music of Pink Floyd in Moscow.  He is Musical Director for the BSO Voices Choir Southampton partnered with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and works at Wells Cathedral in Somerset conducting their orchestras and ensembles.

Pupils are already rehearsing a Partsong, Ensemble and Unison Song, and we can guarantee an exciting evening's entertainment involving the entire First Year and many older musicians within the School.
