Sixth Form students at Brentwood School are celebrating a plethora of University offers for sought-after places on Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine courses.
Headmaster Ian Davies congratulated this year’s cohort of MDV applicants. “These excellent students thoroughly deserve the offers they have received. Our programme of specialist support in school led by Dr Tiffin provides the very best advice, bespoke guidance and training for all our students, whatever subject they wish to pursue at University.”
Among the successful MDV students were eight from the current Upper Sixth and another two Old Brentwoods who left last summer and re-applied for the coveted places.
James Briton is set to study Medicine at Liverpool; Charlotte Caddies has offers from both Exeter and Newcastle to study Medicine; Giles Davies to study Medicine at Keele, and Vicky Huang is sitting on offers from both Liverpool and Queen's Belfast to study Dentistry and has also interviewed at Bristol.
Nisal Karunaratne has received an offer to read Medicine at Brighton & Sussex; Rohan Laav has the rare distinction of having been interviewed by all four of his University choices. He has offers to study Medicine at both UCL and Cardiff and has interviewed at Imperial and Birmingham. Ben Murray is enjoying offers from Edinburgh and Liverpool to read Veterinary Medicine and has interviewed at the Royal Veterinary College, and Nawani Wickramaratne has secured an offer from Liverpool to study Medicine.
Two former students, whose re-applications the School supported, have also been successful for places in September 2015. They are Tanvi Bagtharia who will study Dentistry at Plymouth, and
Naznin Ferdhusi who has offers from St George’s and King's to study Medicine. She has also interviewed at Oxford.
Brentwood School has a very strong academic record with nearly every student continuing into higher education. The School provides advice and support to help students through the demanding process of applying to University.
The announcement of such a high number of successful MDV applicants – and this figure may rise - comes on the back of five offers of places from Oxford and Cambridge Universities this year.
Students holding Oxbridge offers are Isobel Fewster set to read Anthropology & Archaeology at St. John’s, Oxford; Jane Harding reading Biology at Oxford; Conor Magee to study History at Exeter, Oxford; Nicole McKechnie to read History at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, and Christopher Moore to study Music at Trinity, Cambridge.
Over the past three years, Brentwood School has seen 24 students offered places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities – an average of eight per year! Given the strong competition for Oxbridge places this is an exceptional achievement.
Mr Davies said: “In order to be offered places by Oxford and Cambridge University, students have had to demonstrate first class academic performances as well as the maturity to thrive under the collegiate system and tutorial teaching arrangements that they offer. The high number of offers demonstrates that in academic terms, our students are able to succeed in the toughest university selection processes.”
Mr Davies also praised the whole year group’s motivation and the support and advice they were given by teachers throughout the UCAS process. “Of overriding importance is an articulate passion for the subject, and reading and research beyond the examination specifications.”
“We wish all our Upper Sixth students good luck in the next few weeks as they prepare for their final exams”, he added.
