No hurdle too big for Equestrian Club

Brentwood School’s Equestrian Team go from strength to strength with wins at the National Schools’ Equestrian Association (NSEA) Dressage and Show Jumping competitions held recently.

Preparatory School pupils Tia Squibb, Eloise Squibb, Ellie Burrell, and Senior School Year 2 pupil Ben Hogarth came first in the 70cms show jumping team category; part of the half-term competition held at the Wix Equestrian Centre, near Manningtree, Essex. 

Ellie and Ben joined forces with 14-year-old Thomas Philpot and his 12-year-old sister Emma to secure a further first place in the 80cms show jumping team event. The first placed teams at both 70cms and 80cms have qualified for the County Challenge Show Jumping Finals to be held at Bury Farm, Buckinghamshire in April. 

A second team of Tia, Emma, Thomas, and Fourth Year Emily Pohl secured 3rd place in the 80cms class. In the 90cm team class, Thomas, Emma, Tia and Emily came Fourth.

The riders also claimed numerous individual places with Brentwood riders taking all 1st – 5th placings in the 80cms class. Ellie Burrell was placed 1st individually in both 70cms and 80cms classes.

In the NSEA Inter-Schools Dressage competition held at the Wix Equestrian Centre a day earlier, Brentwood School’s team of Thomas and Emma Philpot and Emily Pohl, were placed 2nd  with Emma Philpot being placed 3rd individually overall.

Team Manager Mrs Chris Rees said: “The School Equestrian Team is growing in size, confidence and competence.  The School Team Trainer Annette Philpot BHSI has encouraged and trained the riders and built a fantastic team spirit.  We are looking forward to competing at the Show Jumping Finals at Bury Farm in April and also the Woodbridge School One Day Event due to be held at Poplar Park in March”.
