Brentwood Preparatory School super swimmer Ayobami Akindele scooped gold and silver medals at the Essex Swimming Championships at the London Aquatics Centre in Stratford.
Swimming breaststroke, nine-year-old Ayobami was part of the team which took Gold in the 200m Medley Relay. He also secured Silver in the 200m Freestyle Relay in last Saturday's competition.
Ayobami, who is in Year 5 at the Prep, joined Thurrock Swimming Club in April 2017 and within months he had qualified for five races at the Essex Swimming Championships (Age 10/11 category) including 50m Breaststroke, 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, 100m Breaststroke and 200m Breaststroke. He was also selected to represent the swimming club in two relay teams.
He trains for some 10.5 hours a week with both the Thurrock and Brentwood Prep swim teams, including early morning training sessions, and all the hard work is paying off as he continues to achieve Personal Best times in every race.
The Essex Swimming Championships are taking place from the 20th of January - 18th of February at both the London Aquatics Centre and Basildon Sporting Village. Ayobami’s last event is the 100m Breaststroke which will be held later this month.
