Mrs Amanda Morris, BSc, MA
Head of Psychology

Mrs Amanda Morris currently teaches A Level and IB Psychology.  She joined Brentwood School in 2015 having previously taught at Chelmsford County High School for Girls.  She has a psychology degree from the University of Kent and a PGCE in Social Sciences from The University of Leicester.  She achieved an MA in Education in 2016.  She has taught Psychology since 2006 and also tutors psychology at undergraduate level with the Open University.  On top of this she has been an examiner for A Level psychology since 2010.  Her favourite area of psychology is Research Methods and she is also very interested in Developmental Psychology and learning in children

Mrs Sarah Knightbridge, BSc

Mrs Knightbridge joined Brentwood School in September 2004, having taught previously at Coopers’ Company & Coborn School. She has a Sports Science degree from the University of Brighton and a PGCE in Physical Education from the University of Brunel. During her time at the School she taught A Level Psychology, A Level Physical Education, GCSE Physical Education and Creative and Critical Thinking. Her areas of interest are Sports Psychology and the ongoing interactionist nature/nurture debate that runs through the Biological and Learning approaches within the subject.  Outside of the classroom she is Head of Hockey and Head of GCSE Physical Education.

Mrs Jan O'Connell, BSc

Deputy Head of Medicine/Dentistry/Veterinary (MDV)


Mrs O’Connell holds a First Class BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology and has been teaching for 15 years.  After being a parent at Brentwood School for 19 years, she has been teaching here since September 2010 and works in the Sixth Form teaching Psychology at AS and A2 Level as well as Higher Level IB. Having a strong interest in students' progression on to university, Mrs O'Connell also works as part of the very successful MDV team, assisting students who are applying to university to study Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Sciences in addition to helping students who are planning to study Psychology or Criminology at university. She acknowledges a preference for the Cognitive Approach in Psychology and the rigorous methodology it uses but as a strong follower of Existential Psychology, Mrs O’Connell believes that the meaning of life is found in hard work, an ethos which she strives to instil in her students.
