Brentwood School racer Matt Luff has taken another step up the motorsport ladder following yesterday’s announcement that he is to contest the Simpson Race Products Ginetta Junior Championship in 2017 with JHR Developments.
Fifteen-year-old Matt finished inside the top three at the Ginetta Junior Scholarship last year and is hoping his front running pace will help him pick up multiple rookie podiums in his maiden year, giving him a shot at the 2017 rookie Championship honours.
Like many Ginetta Junior competitors, Matt has a decorated background in karting. He won the British Schools’ Karting Championship last season, as well as the SODI World Series title in Paris in both 2015 and 2016. Last month, he was named Havering Junior Sports Competitor of the Year by the Havering Sports Council at their Awards Evening.
Matt said: “After a very successful 2016 in karts I’m looking forward to the move into cars and hope to build upon my success of finishing top three in the Ginetta Junior Scholarship 2017. I'm sure that with JHR behind me I can progress throughout the year and have an outstanding season"
Jules Phillips, Team Manager at JHR added: “We are very pleased to sign Matt as he has far exceeded our expectations every time he gets in the car. He fits perfectly into a strong team line up this year and will be targeting the podium.”
The Ginetta Junior Championship is the UK's longest running and most prestigious junior series. Offering the first step on the motorsport ladder for 14-17 year old racing drivers, it gives aspiring teenage drivers the experience of a lifetime, kick-starting their journey towards racing stardom to a massive trackside audience and millions of fans at home.
Using the multi-disciplined Ginetta G40, the championship is a proven tool in the development of drivers moving on to a variety of different Motorsport disciplines.
