School stalwart remembered

A memorial service will be held next week in Chelmsford Cathedral for Brentwood School stalwart John Norris who passed away peacefully on 4th October at Mountnessing Hall.

John, who was 86 years old, attended Brentwood School from 1936-1946, and was later a Governor of the School. A local farmer, he was a familiar face at all School and Old Brentwood events, regularly handing out Speech Day prizes and inspecting the Combined Cadet Force. He was also a member of the Society of Old Brentwoods.

Headmaster Ian Davies said: “The whole School community is saddened by the news of John’s death. As a former pupil and active Governor, we greatly appreciate the input he had into making the School what it is today. He was a regular attendee at our Old Brentwood events and took a keen interest in current pupils too. He will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with his family.”

The memorial service of thanksgiving for John’s life will be held in Chelmsford Cathedral at 3:30pm on Wednesday 11th November. Chairman of Governors, Mr Colin Finch, said: “This will be the occasion when friends will be able to join Mrs Norris and her family in remembering John and his tremendous contribution to the life of Brentwood School.”

John and his wife Joy have two daughters, Claire who lives in Essex and Sarah in Scotland.
