Life in the Sixth Form

The Sixth Form years can be the most exciting and inspiring phase of your school education.

Brentwood Sixth Form is a community of around 380 students that is warm and down-to-earth. We encourage students to have a broad range of interests no matter what their specialism, and alongside academic studies, we help them develop good moral character, communication and leadership skills.

We provide inspiring and focused teaching in an environment with top-level facilities across all subjects. You will be taught to maximise your natural talents through self-discipline and creativity. There is a wide choice of subjects, whether you want to follow the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), BTEC Extended Diploma (Sport and Business) or A Levels and we support any combination of options to suit your strengths or areas of interest, because, rather than restrict you with blocks of subjects to choose from, we design the timetable around your choices. Academic progress is carefully monitored – and this shows in the excellent results our students achieve year on year. You will have a personal tutor who keeps track of both your academic and pastoral care.

These sit alongside common rooms, private study areas and spaces where you can relax. At the same time, you have the benefit of being part of the whole School, and a huge range of clubs, societies and Co-Curricular activities that are on offer to expand your experience. You will also be issued with an iPad to enhance your learning experience and prepare you for the digital world that awaits you after your studies.

This year, an impressive 188 Sixth Form students submitted an application to UCAS using our Careers programme, including 17 overseas applications and 16 applications from Old Brentwoods. 21 students were also supported with apprenticeship applications. We are very proud that every year the majority of our students are accepted to their first choice of university, however, we recognise that university is not for everyone and we are equally proud of our students who pursue different routes, whether these be apprenticeships or directly into the workplace.

Sixth Formers automatically become members of our alumni association, a forum for keeping in touch with fellow students and the School after leaving. The extensive alumni database also provides access to experts in their fields who can give careers advice and valuable help with networking.

All this adds up to a wonderfully challenging and vibrant two years, where increasing responsibility rewards hard work and commitment and intellectual challenge leads to achievements you never thought possible.

Director of Sixth Form
