Two students have won prizes in this year's Havering Music Festival final, which took place on Saturday 19th May. Marimbarist Jonathan Akerman (U6) was crowned Havering Young Musician of the Year, as well as picking up two additional prizes, The Havering Chamber of Commerce and Industry Cup and the HSMA Residential Course Award. Flautist Tara Bartell (5th Year, pictured left) won the Jacmar Shield and £25.
The external adjudicator was Dudley Bright, from the London Symphony Orchestra. Each performer was also presented with a commemorative certificate and both of them deserve hearty congratulations on their fine performances.
Paul Harris, Senior Manager of Havering Music School, commented: "Those of you who were able to be with us will know what an enjoyable evening it was. Many of the players are long-standing friends and it was good to see how well they supported each other."
