The pinnacle of a busy sporting week culminated in Brentwood School’s Under 15A team performing with great character and resilience to win the final of the Elgin Cup in a hard-fought victory against Hampton School, in South West London.
After trailing 1-0 for most of the deciding game, an extra-time winner by Brentwood’s Dominic Clatworthy sent the travelling fans into raptures and secured last night’s 2-1 victory and revenge for a defeat earlier in the season.
Brentwood were resolute in defence before Joe McDonald scored a stunning equaliser from 25 yards to send the game into overtime. In the first period of added time, Clatworthy smashed home the winner.
Gabriel Gerlis was awarded Man of the Match and was ably supported by superb performances from Captain Fin Turner, Jack Brown and Harry Gough.
Headmaster Ian Davies described the league victory as fantastic news, adding: “Congratulations to all the boys and their coaches.”
