Water Polo team crowned National Plate Champions

Brentwood School’s U15 Water Polo team have been crowned the English Schools’ Swimming Association (ESSA) National Plate Champions for 2016!

The Brentwood side beat St Ambrose College 6-2 to take the coveted title in an exciting final held at Oundle School in Northamptonshire on Sunday. It is the first time Brentwood have lifted the Plate which is the highlight of the schools’ water polo season.

Schools are split into four regions South East, London, North West and West Midlands. Brentwood (South East division) played Alleyn’s School, East Dulwich, and Winterbourne International Academy in the play-offs, then beat Eton 3-2 to gain a place in the Finals.

In a Finals clean sweep, Brentwood beat City of London and Whitgift (London) also St Ambrose College (North East) to be crowned the Plate Champions.

Players of the Tournament were Jack Warman (Captain) & Cameron Lindsay, both Fourth Years. Fifteen-year-old Cameron was also Top Scorer with 15 goals.

Mrs Carol Melvin, Head of Swimming at Brentwood School, said: “I am very pleased and proud of their achievements. Jack Warman and Cameron Lindsay led the team to victory in each match. My thanks also to Lower Sixth student James Warman for his help coaching the team. I am always on the lookout for new players!”
