Charity work is a feature of the school. We have a Charity Co-ordinator who carefully selects the many suggestions put forward by pupils, staff, parents and outside agencies. In many cases, representatives from charities visit our school and speak to the children about the work of their organisations. Sometimes our pupil School Council is able to visit a charity to see their work in action.
Wherever possible we link the charity work to personal experiences. For example, in 2007, one of our former pupils taught at Chikipira School in Malawi. After forming a foundation charity, he launched a campaign to raise funds to purchase equipment for this school. He led assemblies which showed, through pictures and words, the need to help Chikipira and since then our children and families have raised over £9000 for this school.
During the year, most of the charity events are organized and run by the pupils. In July, the school holds a charity afternoon in which every Year 6 pupil organizes and runs a charity stall of their choice.
