"A particular memory from my days at Brentwood Pre-Prep was the official opening which took place in the second year. The Duke of Gloucester performed the opening ceremony and I recall the very thorough arrangements that were put in place prior to the visit. The Duke was accompanied on the day by Mr Norris, a School Governor who was then the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Essex. The children thought that Mr Norris was the Duke as he was wearing full uniform complete with spurs!"
Ann Murrells, Founder Headmistress
"The Pre-Preparatory School was the vision of Jack Higgs many, many years before it came into being, and I am sure that he would be delighted to see how it has been realised, not only in its inception, but in its subsequent development. I well remember the preparations for the planning and building of the School on the site of an old established greenhouse and an expanse of grass rather grandly known as The Headmaster's Lawn, since it was (and still is) adjacent to Taskers, the Preparatory School Head's house. From then on the ambience of Middleton Hall campus underwent its greatest changes since its establishment as the home of the Preparatory School in the late 1940s, with the establishment of the Pre-Preparatory School for boy and girl pupils, closely followed by the introduction of girls into the Preparatory School. How quickly the years have flown and how completely have all the new buildings and extended range of pupils blended into the landscape and ethos of the School."
John Marchant, former Headmaster of the Preparatory School
