Brentwood School is very proud of its musical tradition and no more so than here at the Preparatory School. All classes have almost one and a half hours of music lessons each week. In class, pupils take part in a wide range of music activities, including singing and composing; the music technology suite is also used to teach all pupils how to read and write music.
Our extra-curricular music programme is strong. The school orchestra, flute choir and many other ensembles perform regularly both in and out of school. We hold several concerts each year as well as informal music recitals, which offer pupils an opportunity to develop their confidence and performing skills in a relaxed setting. There is even an assembly orchestra which accompanies our children's singing in assembly each morning.
Every pupil is a member of a choir - Junior or Senior - which rehearses weekly. We also have a Chamber Choir, which rehearses weekly, for our most able singers. This year, our Senior Choir reached the final of the National Choirs Competition, which was held at the Royal Festival Hall. Last year all our Year 5 pupils sang in a concert at the Albert Hall as part of a mass choir concert.
The Music Department has its own specialist facilities including a music classroom, music technology room and seven music practice rooms. We have thirteen visiting music staff who provide individual, instrumental tuition for pupils and a Director of Music who coordinates all music at the Prep School.
The Music Department is very busy! We want all pupils to enjoy music and benefit from the experience of performing to a wide range of audiences.
