2nd Year pupil Richard Horswill first went on a squash court at the age of five, and started to play regularly at age nine when he attended junior squash sessions at the Connaught Club in Essex. He first played representative squash for Essex in March 2007, playing at No5 in a strong five-man team at the National inter-county semi-finals. In 2008, as older players moved up to the next age group, he played at No1 for Essex, again in inter-county matches, and was awarded his county colours in September. This year Richard has moved up to the U15 county squad.

As Richard plays representative cricket throughout the summer, his squash playing has tended to be limited to a handful of games between April and September. But since the end of the cricket season in September, he has entered four U13 tournaments, reaching the finals of all four and winning three of them, beating nationally ranked players in doing so. These victories have included the Middlesex Open and the Peter Nichol tournament at Moreton Hall, Bury St Edmunds. His latest win was in the Cadman Tournament, held at Essex University.

Richard has also represented the school at squash this term, playing in the area matches of the national schools competition, in a team made up predominantly of sixth form players.  The England Squash and Racketball Association award ranking points for positions achieved in sanctioned events, and Richard's recent success has meant that he has steadily climbed the rankings and should be in the top thirty in the UK by the end of the year.
