Brentwood School's Sixth Formers celebrated another excellent year of A Level results. 91% of grades were A - C with 71% being As and Bs. 22 exceptional candidates received 3 or more A grades and 7 outstanding A Level and IB pupils have achieved their offers to attend Oxford or Cambridge University in September 2009. The school can also boast 100% pass rate, as out of 366 A Levels that were taken by 119 pupils, 366 A Levels were passed.
Brentwood School's Headmaster, Mr Ian Davies, commented: "I am very proud of the achievement of the pupils this year. Their results are a reflection of very hard work by students, and are evidence of the care, dedication and skill of their teachers throughout their time at Brentwood School. Pressure on places at top Universities has been greater than ever this year, and I am pleased that most of our students have been successful."
These superb A Level results complement the IB results already published. The overall point's average for Brentwood School pupils equates to 2 As and a B at A Level.
Several pupils received excellent grades and are very talented in other areas, most notably; Eleanor Law who was a finalist in the British Biology Olympiad, has gained 4 A grades at A Level and joins her brother at Oxford University to study Biochemistry. Lingcheng Kong who is an outstanding concert pianist achieved 3 As at A Level and a place at Cambridge to study Mathematics. Charlotte Monk who captained the Girls' Netball team achieved an A and 2 Bs at A Level and will be attending Reading University to study Business Management. Kaz Melvin, Captain of the Swimming team achieved 2 As and a B and a place to study Physiotherapy at Birmingham University. Ryan Sees who played in the National Youth Wind Orchestra also achieved 40 IB points and a place at Cambridge University to read Mathematics. Elliot Storey who is a keen cyclist and was Student Editor of the school magazine ‘The Brentwoodian' gained 42 IB points and achieved a place to study Modern Languages at Oxford University. Matthew Birkett who played the lead role in the school play ‘My Fair Lady' achieved 3 As and will go on to read Geography at Durham University.
Brentwood School does not just prepare pupils to gain places at top universities but also equips them to thrive at university. Notable former Brentwood School pupils that have completed university include; Chinne Menakaya who graduated from Brunel University with a First Class Honours Degree in Economics and Business Finance, similarly Patrick Yau graduated from Southampton University with a First Degree and Jayne Hornsby also achieved a First Degree in Law from the University of Kent.
