A Victorian Evening and 'A Christmas Carol'

08 December 2007

Attendees of the Sixth Form Christmas play ‘A Christmas Carol' on Saturday 8th December went back to the year of 1857, the time of Charles Dickens.

The dress code was from the Victorian period and everyone certainly got into the spirit of the era, with many men sporting facial hair, top hats, and waist coats and women wearing bonnets, corsets and bustled dresses.

Partakers in the evening enjoyed dinner and mulled wine before viewing the spectacular play.

The play was brilliantly directed and arranged.  Highlights included student Tom Stacey as the part of the Headmaster, he berated Brentwood School's own Headmaster, Ian Davies, eliciting some sixth form revenge by insisting he ‘do up his top button' and invoking the ‘six inch rule' when it came to sitting next to his wife. It was very amusing.

Billy Shallow was excellent in the role of Charles Dickens and denounced Governor Colin Finch (also dressed as Charles Dickens) as an ‘impostor' and added, ‘You look nothing like me!.'

The audience enjoyed a very entertaining evening filled with nostalgia, talent and humour.
