Biology Olympiad
26 March 2009
Upper Sixth Form pupil Eleanor Law achieved a Gold Medal in the British Biology Olympiad and has been placed in the top 12 students in the country, out of over one thousand competitors across the UK. Eleanor has now been invited by the Institute of Biology to attend three days of lectures and laboratory work at the University of Birmingham over the Easter break, in which time the team of four students to represent Great Britain in the International Biology Olympiad will be determined. The International Biology Olympiad will take place in Japan this July. The British Biology Olympiad is a competition to extend and reward the best all round young Biologists in the country and to select ateam to represent the United Kingdom at the International Biology Olympiad each year. Head of Biology, Mr Alistair Taylor commented "Eleanor is a very keen scientist and has been offered a place at Cambridge to study Biochemistry, she has worked very hard this year and it is no surprise that she has made it into the top 12 pupils in the country. The British Biology Olympiad is a prestigious competition and the standard of entries is always high. All of the pupils that took part have done exceptionally well."
