Brentwood School Centurions
22 July 2009
Brentwood School Centurions from left to right: David Carpenter (Year 10), Guy Balmford (Year 10), Richard Horswill (Year 7), Aaron West (Year 13), Max Shirt (Year 13), Liam Taylor (Year 12), and James Welham (Year 10) Brentwood School's batsmen have enjoyed a bumper season with an amazing thirteen boys scoring centuries for the school. Leading the way has been First Eleven captain Aaron West who scored five centuries and ended a fabulous cricketing career at the school by scoring 1290 runs, a new school record and one of the highest totals ever recorded by a schoolboy batsman. The school has strong links with Brentwood Cricket Club and Aaron is already making a strong impression at the club as he bids to make the sport his profession. This has been an excellent season for the majority of the Brentwood School teams. The Under 15s enjoyed a successful tour of Barbados before losing the National Semi-Final against Millfield School by just one run. The Under 14s are also looking forward to defending their National title next year, the First Eleven won the St John's Leatherhead Festival and the Under 12A team won all 15 of their games. In addition, several boys will be representing Essex during the summer holidays. Cricket at the school is run by Brian Hardie, the former Essex opening bat, who said, "I am delighted that so many boys have shown the determination and application to reach the magical three figures. It is also special that someone from every year group in the school from Under 11 to Under 19 has scored a century."
