Acting, singing and dancing were all combined recently at Brentwood School as Roald Dahl's Twits presented the tale of the Fantastic Mr. Fox, an incredible feast of folly and fun. Both 1st and 2nd Year pupils performed the Trinity Term play held in the Memorial Hall on Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th June, which followed The Twits cruel adventures from England to Africa.
The show observed The Twits terrorising an innocent family of monkeys, known to their friends as the Mugglewumps, played by students Emily MacKinnon, Josie Carver, Dami Dina, Honor Wray, Alice Thomson, Becky Jones and Jed Allen. Imprisoned and far from home, Mr. Mugglewump comforts his children with the story of a brave animal, who fights for freedom against villainous humans.
The humans want to rid their farms of an animal so courageous that they have never yet got close to him, but this time the odious farmer Bean hits upon a plan that he believes cannot fail. With the help of mechanical shovels they will dig their way relentlessly to their victim and surely nothing can stop them. Nothing, that is, except the brains, bravery and cunning of Fantastic Mr. Fox!
The play, held for parents, pupils and their families was enjoyed by all. Special mention should go to The Twits, Georgia Macalle and Lewis Holmes who got lots of laughs. The Three Farmers, Tom Carswell, Chris Moore and Max Saunders were also outstanding. The Foxes were played by Daisy Parsons, Izzy Denham, Nirvana Leaver, Becky Lloyd, Rachael Rawlins and Freddy Graver.
Brentwood School Drama teacher, Mr. Cleaves commented: "The costumes and set looked fantastic and were really bright and colourful. The whole cast dance brought the show to life and genuinely energised the audience. There were also lots of primary school age pupils that attended and really loved the show."
