Public Speaking at Brentwood School has grown hugely in popularity over the past five years and is now so popular that English teacher Miss Caroline Gordon-Johnson decided to hold a Public Speaking House Competition this year.
Pupils from all houses took part and the junior and middle pupils performed particularly well and should be very proud of themselves. South house swept the field deservedly, but all the houses presentations in this particular competition produced very strong performances.
Shields were presented in Monday's assembly to the winning teams and speakers. The results for the competitions are as follows:
Juniors: Best Speaker - Martin Bartlett (Weald) - The future of robotics
1st) South
2nd) East
3rd) North
4th) School
5th) West
6th) Weald
Middles: Best Speaker - Will Norris (North) - The changing game of cricket
1st) South
2nd) West
3rd) North
4th) Weald
5th) School
6th) East
Following the competition, Miss Caroline Gordon-Johnson said, ‘Pupils had clearly undertaken a lot of research and given thought to the crafting of their speeches. It was great to see everyone work together for the team trophies, and pupils should definitely be proud of their strong performances.'
