Careers Convention - 19th March 2009
19 March 2009
The University Entrance and Careers Department at Brentwood School held its annual Careers Convention in the Courage Hall for students and their parents to explore the possible avenues open to them when they leave school. The evening was themed - "What path do you want to take" and over 300 students attended to find out more. Experts from over 90 organisations representing higher education, the private and public sectors, the armed forces and charities attended. They brought advice and information about their specific fields of expertise and were on hand to answer any questions that the students had. Many former pupils returned to their school as exhibitors to share their experiences of further education and careers. The Head of the University Entrance and Careers Department, Dr Ken Cooper, who organised the evening, commented, "This event has built on the success of last year's Careers Convention. We received very positive feedback from our students and the representatives of the organisations that attended in the past and the event seems to get bigger every year. The evening provides many of the answers to the questions that our 4th, 5th and Sixth Form pupils have about higher education or careers choices when they leave school. We ask organisations to attend from a wide range of disciplines so that our students can explore not only traditional career and higher education paths, but also other options such as gap years or voluntary work."
