Following last term's entertaining "Songs from the Shows", Chamber and Orchestral Concerts, the annual Choral Concert was the first concert to take place this term and did not disappoint. The concert took place in the magnificent setting of Brentwood Cathedral and featured senior musicians who comprise the Choral Society and Chamber Orchestra.
A varied programme had been prepared for the evening, including two major works: the ‘Gloria' of Vivaldi, which was sung beautifully by members of the Choral Society conducted by Second Master Mr David Taylor and accompanied on the organ by Director of Music, Mr David Pickthall, and Handel's ‘Harp Concerto' to commemorate the 250 years since that great English composer's death. Upper Sixth Form pupil Caroline Hall played the solo part beautifully and was presented with the Concerto Shield by previous holder, cellist Florian Cooper, following her performance.
Highlights of the evening also included solo arias by Lower Sixth vocalist, Isabella Valentini who included ‘O Mio Babbino Caro' by Puccini among her performances, and Upper Sixth Former Eleanor Lowe who played the slow movement of the exquisite ‘Sonata for Oboe' by Saint-Saens.
To complete the programme Upper Sixth Formers Nathan Steele, Ryan Sees and Florian Cooper performed two movements from Brahms' ‘Trio for Piano, Clarinet and Cello'.
Director of Music, Mr David Pickthall commented, "it was a marvellous programme, full of mature performances from our senior musicians, all of whom entertained our large audience magnificently."
