Essex Indoor Hockey Tournaments
06 November 2009
Brentwood School played for the first time in the U16 and U18 Essex Indoor Hockey tournaments. The girls rose to the challenge and played with great determination, particularly with implementing the different rules and regulations that apply to Indoor hockey. The U16 played against a strong side from Coopers Coborn which included very experienced club players. Brentwood produced a solid performance and gained confidence in the tactics involved with indoor hockey, Chrissie Law produced an excellent performance in defence tactically using the wall to distribute the wall. A fine performance in goal by pupil Nicolette Sizer kept the score line down, Lexi Gutschow demonstrated great skill on the ball and went onto score Brentwood's only goal on a penalty flick. The final score was 8-1, which was a great achievement against such an accomplished side for their first ever experience of indoor hockey. The U18 team, despite also not having any indoor hockey experience, produced an excellent performance in both their games. They played a close game against an experienced Coopers Coborn side, narrowly losing 6-1. Sarah White and Florentine had an outstanding game in defence and Vicky Charlesworth kept her team in the match with her solid performance in goal. Learning from their first game mistakes the U18 produced an outstanding level of tactical hockey against the hosts Forest School. Skilful play by Poppy Church and Natalie Beardwell penetrated Forests defence continually, hard work in the midfield by Mimi Allen and good distribution from the back by Katie Johnston created an exciting game of hockey. Both teams finished 2nd in their competitions, narrowly missing out on a place in the regional finals. All of the girls thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of playing indoor hockey and have demonstrated natural ability for it. Both teams coming 2nd in the county is a fantastic achievement for a first event and an exciting prospect for future competitions.
