Service of Nine Lessons and Carols at Brentwood Cathedral
07 December 2009
A special Christmas Carol Service took place at Brentwood Cathedral on the evening of Sunday 6th December.
The Venerable David Lowman (Archdeacon of Southend and Governor of Brentwood School) introduced the service and then the electric lights were turned off and replaced with candlelight, creating an intimate Christmas atmosphere.
Carols were sung beautifully by the Brentwood School Choir and the congregation of pupils, parents and staff joined in with much enthusiasm. The programme included a selection of traditional and modern carols, such as, ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen' and ‘Good King Wenceslas.'
The Festival Service of Nine Lessons and Carols was conducted by David Taylor, Second Master and the Director of Music at the school, David Pickthall, played the organ. Special thanks to the Bishop of Brentwood and to the Dean for welcoming Brentwood School.
The nine lessons were read by Nirvana Leaver (First Form), Alexander McLintock (Third Form), Elizabeth Moen (Fifth Form), Kalina Tsoneva (Head of Mill Hill House), Alex Quigley (Head of School), Mrs Michelle Miller (School Secretary), Mr Nigel Carr (Deputy Head), Mr Colin Finch (Chairman of the Governors) and the Headmaster.
