Brentwood School pupil, Alex Morison has won a Christmas poetry competition and will turn on the Brentwood Christmas lights with the Mayor. 

Pupils under the age of 16, throughout the borough, were contacted by Brentwood County Council to enter the poetry competition.  The theme for the competition was ‘Christmas in Brentwood' and winning poems would best sum up Christmas in the Borough. 

There were over 100 entries from many local school children but Mayor Cllr. Tony Sleep chose Alex's festive poem as one of his four winners. 

Alex's prize for winning is the opportunity to switch on the Christmas lights with the Mayor on Saturday 28^th November in front of an audience of thousands!  Congratulations Alex.

Walking down the High Street
Gazing at the lights
All of them blue
And shining oh so bright.

Men who look like Santa Claus
Shouting "Ho Ho Ho"
Looking at the sky
And wishing for the snow.

Children wearing woolly hats
And gloves and scarves as well
Waiting at the end of School
For the hometime bell.

Searching for a Christmas tree
To put our baubles on
Sitting by the warming fire
Listening to Christmas songs.

Waking up at 5 o'clock
On early Christmas morn
Running to our parents room
It isn't even dawn!

Spending time with family
Eating Christmas lunch
Reading lots of cheesy jokes
What a happy bunch.

With stomachs full, we watch TV
All sitting on the sofa
Dozing off, the next thing we know
Christmas is already over!
