Readathon and World Book Day

03 March 2008

This week the Brentwood School Library and English Department are launching a Charity Readathon to support The Roald Dahl Foundation and CLIC Sargent (Cancer and Leukemia in Children), both charities work to support seriously ill children and their families.

Each year Brentwood School holds a Charity Readthon to coincide with World Book Day and last year the school rose over £3,000 for their chosen charities.  Every first and second year pupil is encouraged to take part and the school is introducing them to it in their library lesson with a short DVD about Roald Dahl.

The Readathon will run until after the Easter break (9th April 2008) when all monies are to be returned to the library. As World Book Day (6th March 2008) falls in this period, each pupil will receive a £1 book voucher to spend as they wish on books of their choice as part of the Readathon.

As with each year the school will be giving out prizes to the pupil in each year group that collects the most money for charity.

Each year all of Brentwood School's charity events raise over £40,000 and Brentwood School English teacher Caroline Gordon-Johnson said "we were overwhelmed with all the help and support from parents and the community last year and we raised over £3,000, this year we hope to make it at least £4,000!"
