A Brentwood School pupil has been named Young Footballer of the Year.
16 year old Ross Phillips was nominated by his teachers and coaches for the prestigious Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) title, after outstanding performances throughout the 2006-2007 season.
Ross was selected to play for the ISFA U16 representative team following a series of very competitive trials. This team played a number of high profile fixtures against Academy teams in the Premiership and County teams. At the end of the season all independent schools in the UK put forward their best under-16 footballers who played for the ISFA team. The nominees are assessed by a panel of judges who watch their games throughout the season.
Ross heard the good news at the end of last season and was presented with a plaque and trophy by Mark Dickson, Chief Executive of ISFA, at an assembly. In addition to his award, he will also receive a set of driving lessons from sponsors, a2om.
Ross plays regularly for the Brentwood School 1st XI, and was also the captain of the ISFA U16 Representative team.
Headmaster Ian Davies commented: "Many congratulations to Ross on his achievement. We are proud of our sporting achievements at Brentwood School and Ross is a good example of our national success."
Ross added: "It was a real achievement to win this award out of so many people. I would like to thank you Mr Reddin for all his help and support."
