Seven Students Gain Places at Oxbridge

Ryan Sees

Congratulations to the seven pupils that have gained places at Oxbridge this year.

Ryan Sees
Studying:
Mathematics, Physics, French (Higher Level), Economics, English and Spanish (Standard Level) on the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
University: Accepted to study Mathematics at Cambridge.
Extra-curricular Activities: At school Ryan is working towards his Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.  He also plays the clarinet in the National Youth Wind Orchestra and the Essex Youth Orchestra.  Ryan holds Grade 8's in both the clarinet and saxophone and recently received a Clarinet Performance Diploma.  He enjoys being a sergeant in the RAF section of the Combined Cadet Force. 
Hobbies Outside of School:  Ryan takes part in many orchestras and music ensembles and also enjoys playing badminton and squash.
Greatest Achievement:  Getting into the National Wind Orchestra Performance Diploma.

Rebecca SentanceRebecca Sentance
Studying:
French, Spanish and English Literature at A Level and Italian at a GCSE Level.  Rebecca was also the first non-native Chinese pupil to receive a GCSE in Chinese. 
University:
Accepted to study Oriental Studies at Cambridge. 
Extra-curricular Activities: Rebecca holds a Grade 8 distinction in the French horn and a Grade 6 for the Cornet.  She has a passion for music and regularly performs in the Symphony Orchestra, Concert Band, Choral Society, Wind Quintet and Big Band, and she was very pleased to have played in the school orchestra for both Les Miserables and My Fair Lady productions.  Rebecca is a member of the Bridge Club and enjoys Archery at school, in which she has achieved her white badge.  Throughout her school career she has actively taken part in the CSU and helped to organise activities for House Charity Week.  Rebecca was recently awarded her Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award and also enjoys contributing to the ‘Brentwoodian magazine'.
Hobbies Outside of School:  Learning musical instruments and playing in the church band.  Rebecca also helps to run the crèche at the church for under 5's and particularly likes organising craft activities and teaching the young group about God.  Rebecca also enjoys writing stories and studying Chinese.
Greatest Achievement to date: Being the first non-native Chinese speaker to take a GCSE and achieve an A*.

Eleanor Law
Studying: Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry at A Level. 
University:
Accepted to study Biochemistry at Oxford.Eleanor Law
Extra-curricular Activities: Eleanor is a keen sportswoman and plays hockey for the 2nd XI Hockey Team and Girls Squash Team. She also is actively involved with music at the school and plays the violin and saxophone and regularly takes part in the Big Band, Symphony Orchestra, Concert Band and Choral Society. 
Hobbies Outside of School:  Eleanor coaches trampolining outside of school and has completed her Silver Award in the Duke of Edinburgh programme.  She also enjoys helping to organise events at her church for children and playing the violin and saxophone in her church band. 
Greatest Achievement to date: Getting a Gold Medal in the Intermediate Maths Olympiad in the 5th Year.  Eleanor was ranked in the Top 60 pupils in the country at this competition.

Lingcheng KongLingcheng Kong
Studying: Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics at A Level.
University:
Accepted to study Mathematics at Cambridge.
Extra-curricular Activities: Lingcheng is Captain of the school Basketball team and enjoys playing the piano.  He has received the highest grade in China for piano and due to his ability to memorise notes, rarely plays with sheet music. He also enjoys taking part in the infamous House Music Competition and Chamber Concerts.
Greatest Achievement to date:  Gaining a Gold Medal at the 2008 and 2009 Maths Challenge, a Gold Medal in the 2008 Maths Olympiad and a Distinction in the 2007 Maths Olympiad.

Sarah Stuckey

Studying: Latin, Classical Greek and English Literature at A Level.Sarah Stuckey
University:
Accepted to study Classics at Cambridge.
Extra-curricular Activities: Sarah recently achieved her Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award  and is Head of Commands Company in the Army section of the Combined Cadet Force.  She is also a member of the ‘Sir Antony Browne Society', a group of Sixth Former's that meets to discuss intellectual and cultural interests.  She enjoys taking part in charity work and recently helped raise funds for the ‘Help the Heroes' charity. 
Hobbies Outside of School:  Going to the Gym, dancing, reading poetry and music. 
Greatest Achievement to date:  Getting into Cambridge!

Elliot StoreyElliot Storey
Studying:  
English, French, German (Higher Level), Philosophy, Mathematics and Biology (Standard Level) on the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
University:
Accepted to study German at Oxford.
Extra-curricular Activities:  Elliot is Student Editor for the schools ‘Brentwoodian Magazine', and regularly covers events to be included in this annual publication. Elliot has enjoyed being editor and one day hopes to become a journalist.
Hobbies Outside of School:  Elliot is a keen cyclist and used to be a national level road cyclist.  He plans to start training seriously in cycling again once he has completed his examinations.
Greatest Achievement to date:  Gaining a place at Oxford!

Catherine Egleton Catherine Egleton
Studying:
Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at A Level.
University: Accepted to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge.
Extra-curricular Activities: Catherine has taken music lessons for 14 years and holds Grade 8's in both the flute and piano, and a Grade 7 in singing.  Catherine actively takes part in the Army Section of the Combined Cadet Force. 
Hobbies Outside of School:  Catherine teaches music lessons in flute and piano and enjoys swimming.
Greatest Achievement to date:  Getting into Cambridge!
