Brentwood School's pupils in South House have been fundraising all week by arranging various creative events, including; cake sales, a fun run, a penalty shoot out and wearing fancy dress. The events have been planned and conducted completely by the pupils and all of the money raised will be donated to J's Hospice.
J's hospice is a stand alone environmentally friendly hospice for 18-40 year olds with limiting conditions in the South East of England. There is only one centre like this in the South East, and the money that the school raises will help to fund a much needed second clinic in Harlow. For this weeks activities the pupils have set themselves a target of £1500.
The three Cake Sales that took place in break times have been a complete success, becoming sold out within minutes, by hungry pupils. There were an array of delicious cakes, biscuits and brownies all made by the students themselves.
Brentwood School collectively helped to raise over £40,000 for charity last year and the school would like to beat that record in 2009. The school takes its charitable commitment seriously and pupils, staff and parents have supported a number of good causes, both locally, nationally and internationally.
Headmaster of Brentwood School, Mr Ian Davies, commented, "I am very proud of our pupils, parents and staff for their hard work in organising and supporting the many charitable activities which take place at the school each year. It is important that children of today are encouraged to give something back to the community and charitable giving is one of the values that we hope to foster amongst our pupils from an early age".
