The Chairman of Governors Mr Colin Finch welcomed those attending and invited Charlotte Simpson and Eleanor Lowe to give the Latin speech of welcome to the High Sheriff. The Headmaster of Brentwood School then gave his report of the year which celebrated the achievements of pupils both in the classroom, on the sports field, in extra-curricular activities and in charitable work. He reflected on the excellent examination results of the previous summer and a very successful 450th Anniversary year. He looked forward to the planned building developments to the school with the new Sixth Form Centre and the introduction of the Choral Scholarships in September 2009. He commented, "I am particularly pleased to present my report in a year which started with outstanding examination results, continued with memorable and moving events and concluded with an excellent inspection report from the Independent Schools Inspectorate." The High Sheriff of Essex was then invited to present the prizes and give her address. She spoke about her school days and her family history links with the school. Head of School, Georgina Church proposed the vote of thanks on behalf of the school, thanking The High Sheriff for her wise counsel and the school for the opportunities that it provides.
