On 31st January the Sir Anthony Browne Society had a visit from a special speaker; The Right Honourable Ann Widdecombe, who spoke in the Memorial Hall on; ‘The Work of an MP'.
Ann Widdecombe has been a leading figure in Conservative politics since before the 1997 election and was a Minister of State at the Home Office from 1995 to 1997. She is one of the best known National Politicians featuring in many popular TV programmes and even making them.
Ann spoke to the ‘SABS' about the variety of duties and responsibilities that an MP has and how, speaking from experience, those duties have changed over the years. She spoke of her thoughts on the structure of parliament comparing it to how it was 20 years ago to how it is now and the control of legislation. She shared her fondest memories of being and MP, as well as, her frustrations.
Ann answered questions honestly and had no reservations about her answers, when asked; "What do you think of Gordon Brown?" She replied; "Gordon Brown is indecisive and miserable, at least with Blair you knew what he was going to do and he did it".
The Sir Anthony Browne Society is a society for Sixth Form students, to provide a forum for intellectual discussion and cultural interest.
