U15 Cricket team qualify for the Quarter Finals of the Lord's Taverners' National Schools Trophy
20 May 2009
The school was delighted to host pupils and staff from Eton College on Tuesday 19 May 2009 to play this Last 16 tie. Eton won the toss, elected to bat, making a positive start efficiently reaching 50 - 1. Captain James Welham decided a change in bowling was required and subsequently turned to the leg spin of James Bowler and Rehan Hassan. This decision changed the course of the match with both pupils producing spells of the highest quality. James Bowler returned figures of 2 - 15 and Rehan Hassan dumfounded the opposition with a mesmeric spell of 4 - 15. The Eton boys rallied at 90-9 and to their credit managed to reach 130 before James Welham took the final wicket in the 35th over. Brentwood's response started steadily with Mark Baldock and Rehan Hassan opening patiently and cautiously to an impressive seam attack. Mark Baldock was bowled which brought Kishen Velani to the crease. Eton turned to leg spin in the hope that it would be as fruitful as it had been when used by the Brentwood attack. This was not to be the case, Kishen Velani majestically dispatched the bowling with some outstanding stroke play to reach an effortless 46 and latterly, Rehan Hassan hit three sixes off one over. The game was finished at 131 - 2 after 22 overs, when Hassan hit the winning runs to finish unbeaten on 51*. The winners of Haberdashers Askes versus Dr Challoner will be the next opponents in a home quarter final. Congratulations must go to Mr Chris Long and his team for a clinical display.
