The Under 15 football team won the Independent Schools Football Association trophy last night beating Repton School at the Pirelli Stadium, Burton upon Trent, by 3 goals to 1 after extra time. In doing so, Brentwood became the only school to have won all three of ISFA's major cup competitions (U13, U15 and U19).
The match provided epic entertainment for the crowd. A tight encounter saw a powerful Repton midfield dominate for long periods against Brentwood's team. However, Brentwood School had players Elliot Lee and Austin Lipman who both looked likely to score when given the opportunity.
Although Brentwood had some tense moments in the face of relentless attack nothing seemed to faze goalkeeper Oliver Bowles. Bowles was ably assisted by the skilled defence of Alfie Calderwood and it took some sheer brilliance by the Repton captain to take the lead with twenty minutes to go. Yet, with ten minutes left, a bungled save by the Repton goalkeeper gave Austin Lipman the chance to pounce and equalise to the delight of his Brentwood School supporters.
Extra time was allowed and the prospect of penalties loomed. Brentwood then received a corner that curled in from the right which the Repton goalkeeper dropped into the back of the net. Then with two minutes left, Brentwood School pupil Peter Brooking finished off a cross to win.
Captain Louis Grainger has now won three Nationals for Brentwood School, two for football and one for cricket. He lifted the trophy to the chants of the young crowd and the celebrations went long into the evening. This was a great win for Brentwood School and congratulations go to both the boys and the coaching staff on this superb victory.
Director of Sport, Mr Jeff Kayne commented "The boys have played tremendously well throughout the season and fully deserve their title which they won as U13's in 2008."
The Brentwood team defeated Westminster, Dulwich College, Millfied and Hampton in their run to the final scoring 17 goals and conceding just 5.
