U16 Hockey Team in Semi Finals of National Competition
20 March 2009
Brentwood School's U16 Hockey team are through to the semi finals of the National U16 Plate Hockey Competition, after beating Repton School on Friday 20th March 2009. The game took place at home on the Brentwood School. Both teams had made it to the final 8 schools in the national competition that started with over 100 teams. The match was dominated by Brentwood. Students Jenny Elias and Katie Johnston were commanding in midfield with Mimi Allen and Emily Smith providing amazing work rate up front. Sarah White, Jenna Miles, Alice Denman and 3rd year pupil Emma Johnston defended superbly throughout. However, the game finished 0-0 and therefore had to go straight to penalty flicks. The 5 girls that took the flicks were extremely brave and Vicky Charlesworth made a couple of excellent saves in goal. Annie Simpson sealed the victory with the final flick to take the score to 3-2. Annie also achieved the ‘player of the match' award. The team will now travel to Birmingham or Blackpool for the semi-final match which will take place on or before 1st May. Hockey Coach Mrs Sarah Knightbridge commented "The girls thoroughly deserved this victory as they have worked so hard since the first year at the school. They have superb team spirit and never fail to give 100%. They are a pleasure to coach and have not conceded a goal yet in this competition (winning 5-0 and 6-0 in previous rounds)."
