Former Brentwood School pupil and Old Brentwood, Griff Rhys Jones was recently interviewed for a fantastic article entitled ‘Me and my school photo' for The Daily Mail's Weekend magazine on 24th April 2010. The article, about Griff's school life, mainly focused on his experience at Brentwood School which he looked back on with admiration.
The following comments were taken from Griff's interview and article, "I look back on my time at Brentwood with real affection. I have no doubt that the school held me in good stead for the future - and its disciplined, grammar school-style ethos instilled in me the need to work hard if you wanted to get anywhere in life. It also inculcated in me a respect and love for culture of all kinds."
Griff also named his contemporaries including the late Douglas Adam's of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Jack Straw, current Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice. "The thing I liked about Brentwood is that it was a very good school and it took its pupils from all walks of life, regardless of their background - hence it produced as diverse a bunch of people as Jack Straw, Douglas Adams and myself."
Griff made some lovely comments about the schools staff and its teaching, saying "The teachers were inspirational" and "Brentwood was a school that certainly got results. I was one of seven pupils who went up to Emmanuel College, Cambridge, which was pretty amazing."
