Old Brentwood, Peter Barker, plays and wins the World Squash Championship title for England, with a 2-1 win against Australia.

Peter began playing Squash at the age of 8, having discovered it whilst attending Brentwood School.   Peter's brother Phillip Barker, also an Old Brentwood and a professional Squash player, won the World Junior Championship in 2000.

Peter kept his game simple with straight drives and the odd cross court to finish.  Peter said following the game "I did feel the pressure of playing the decider initially, but I played the basic game and a simple one and going straight to the front and making it hard.  The pressure came back in the third but I decided to be patient. It worked!" 

When asked if he would like to come back to Brentwood School to perhaps hold a Squash workshop, he replied 'My time at Brentwood School was fantastic and would happily do something for the school or Old Brentwood's, no problem at all'.  

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Brentwood School has excellent Squash facilities, with 4 courts in the Sports Centre and the Brentwood School Squash Master, Michael Gastin, has recently noticed an upsurge in interest for the game 'This New Year we will be starting a Squash ladder with a SRA (Squash Rackets Association) coach and we have arranged evening sessions for junior and senior level squash'. 

Michael Gastin continued that 'We currently have promising squash students, for example, Paul Vasnoons who is  currently playing at an Under 19 Essex County level and we hope to continue the Brentwood School tradition of producing world class Squash players'.
