Pupils in Brentwood Pre-Preparatory School's Nursery classes took part in a "Chatterbox Challenge" as part of 'Make Chatter Matter Week'.  The week aims to promote the importance of developing children's communication skills in the early years and this year's theme was mini beasts and gardens.  The children prepared a variety of chatterbox activities including singing rhymes, reciting poems, using instruments and following instructions which they performed to their parents. 

The project also provided an opportunity for parents to donate money to the I CAN Charity which exists to help children communicate. The charity focuses on children who have a communication disability. I CAN provides a combination of specialist therapy and education for children with the most severe and complex disabilities, information for parents and training and advice for teachers and other professionals.

The Headmistress of the Pre-Preparatory School, Mrs Wilson, commented, "The nursery children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Chatterbox Challenge. It has enabled them to demonstrate their ability to communicate and to actively take part in raising funds for the I CAN Charity. Communication is a key area of a child's development and it is especially important in the early years. Our parents' generosity will help I CAN to raise awareness and support for children and families affected by this issue."
