Children celebrated World Book Week this year at Brentwood Pre-Preparatory School by taking part in a variety of special classes, assemblies and sessions. On Monday 1st March the Pre-Prep held a mass story session for all staff, Year One, Year Two and Reception classes.
On Wednesday 3rd March pupils had a visit from children's poet Paul Cookson. Paul gave pupils a performance during the assembly and then went to work with classes. Children were shown how to write a poem and were taught that by using rhythm and rhymes they could create poetry from common everyday sentences.
On Character Day, Thursday 4th March, all pupils and staff were invited to come to school dressed as a character from a book. Children were also asked to bring the book to illustrate their depiction. Characters were taken from a variety of books and themes including Nursery Rhymes, Fairy Tales and Poems. A special assembly was held in the Pre-Prep Hall for all to show off their costumes.
On Friday 5th March the Year Two children entertained the school with recitation of poems in assembly. Children were invited to bring a donation to drop into the bucket of the artistes. Brentwood Pre-Prep School's chosen charity on this occasion was appropriately BookAid which aims to take books to children in countries where books are luxuries not everyday items.
