Looking outwards

At the Pre-Preparatory School, we encourage the children to be outwardly focused and we have strong ties with the surrounding community. Our children learn that they can make a positive contribution to the world around them.

Pre-Preparatory children get involved in a wide range of charitable causes and our newly formed School Council takes an active part in making decisions. They have many creative ideas about how to raise money for our chosen charities: from sponsored dressing up days and sports sessions to musical and theatrical events. For example, at our Harvest Festival Service we gather provisions that are taken to the local Brentwood Foyer - an organisation that gives young people in need housing, educational and vocational guidance so that they can become self-sufficient.

On Remembrance Day, the local Royal British Legion looks forward to the arrival of Pre-Preparatory children at the war memorial to make their act of remembrance. The children carry miniature crosses scrolled with their thoughts. Year 2 children interview a local veteran in School to help deepen their understanding of the day.

We familiarise the children with their local area by having regular visits to the high street, local churches and the library. Clearview Sports facility run a tennis group at their premises specifically for our nursery children and many other stage and sports groups enjoy strong connections with the School.

Extracurricular specialists come into School to deliver classes in dance, Spanish, football, tennis, yoga and drama. Many children take part in LAMDA Drama examinations and achieve distinctions. There are a wide range of musical opportunities at School as well; we are supported by peripatetic teachers offering cello, violin and piano.

“Pupils develop a strong sense of social responsibility and understand how they can contribute to the life of their school…behaviour is outstanding both inside the classroom and outside in the playground.”
