Today the BBC Radio Breakfast Show broadcast and interviewed live on air from the Prep School. Ben Fryer, a radio reporter from BBC Essex Sport spoke to the girls' gymnastics team, who recently became Essex County Champions for the 6th year in a row. The pupils performed several routines for Ben including floor work and vaulting and impressed him with their team camaraderie.
Ben was taught how to do the splits in an hour by pupils Emily Brown and Elona Woodford who informed him that he needs to practise more and do some stretches! Ben also spoke to Teresa Woodford; Head of PE at Brentwood Prep about the gym teams training schedule and skills of the gymnasts which he said were ‘incredible.' Mrs Woodford then talked Ben through a routine live on air performed by Holly Perry the youngest member of the gym team.
Ben later spoke to Nigel Helliwell, Brentwood Preparatory School Headmaster about the gym team who remarked, "I am very proud of the gym team, they have worked so hard. It's been such a consistent performance, six years in a row, I'm absolutely delighted. They deserve the success."
"It's really important that we do more than just the teaching in the classroom. An all round education is what children need and what parents want and is a very important part of our school."
The National Championships will be held at Stoke-On-Trent next weekend and both the school and BBC would like to wish the team the very best of luck.
