Brentwood Preparatory School parents were invited to watch the annual Year 6 public speaking final held last week in the Prep Hall. Every child in Year 6 could participate and eight children made it through to the final.
The lucky finalists were asked to speak for 5 minutes on a topic of their choice. The winner of the competition was Tommy Smalley who spoke about ‘the person I would most like to be from history.' Tommy spoke about Leonides, the king of Sparta whose name was raised to heroic status as a result of the events in the Battle of Thermopylae.
Runner Up was James Elms whose speech was "if I had been born an animal, what would I have been?' James spoke about being a monkey which teachers thought was very creative and the audience enjoyed greatly.
Miss Begum, English Teacher at Brentwood Senior School was invited to judge the contest and commented on the high standards of speakers, "I am so impressed with the standard of the finalists; it was incredibly difficult to choose a winner as they were all so great but Tommy thoroughly deserved the winning title."
Nigel Helliwell, Headmaster of Brentwood Preparatory School commented "I am very proud of all of this year's finalists. It is competitions like this that define the quality of pupils in our school."
