School life is packed with creative energy and there are opportunities for every child to stand out. There is an extensive club system with over 50 clubs taking place after school or in lunchtimes.
We have an assembly orchestra who accompany their peers’ singing every morning. Every child takes part in a drama production each year, ranging from musicals and nativity plays to Shakespeare workshops.
Drama is an important part of the curriculum and is taught to every class by specialist drama staff in our spacious Drama Studio each week. Regular visits are made to local theatres to see professional actors in action. Many pupils choose to follow the popular courses run by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) at lunchtimes and after school. Stage Crazy Theatre School also takes place on Saturdays for students who wish to develop their acting skills further. In addition, ballet, jazz dance classes, fencing, basketball, computer skills, French and Spanish are part of our extensive extracurricular programme.
The Music Department has its own specialist facilities including a music classroom, music technology room and seven music practice rooms. All classes have almost one and a half hours of music lessons each week. In class, pupils take part in a wide range of music activities, including singing and composing; the music technology suite is also used to teach all pupils how to read and write music. There are two orchestras, and all our pupils belong to the Junior or Senior choirs, which rehearse weekly and have performed in the Royal Festival and Royal Albert Halls. Over 100 pupils have individual instrument tuition. By the time they leave the Preparatory School, every child can read and write music and knows how to use computer-based composition software.
