Brentwood Preparatory School has confirmed its place as one of the highest achieving academic junior schools in the country. The independent school in Middleton Hall Lane moved up 31 places from 88th to 57th in the Sunday Times Top 100 Prep Schools, published in the School Guide on 14th November 2010.
This is a particularly outstanding result as Brentwood Preparatory was ranked at 130th just four years ago. Headmaster Mr Nigel Helliwell commented "We are delighted with this terrific result. So much hard work has gone on behind the scenes to improve further academic standards. This is a tremendous achievement and I would like to congratulate all our pupils and staff on this wonderful success."
These results in both English and Maths have been improved without reducing the broad curriculum at Brentwood Preparatory School. The pupils participate in over four hours of sport a week, at least two hours of music and all have art, drama, design technology and French lessons as part of their regular timetable. In addition, over 60 extra-curricular clubs are on offer each week.
Year 6 pupils sat the National Curriculum tests in May 2010, which showed that all pupils gained the Government target of level 4 in English and Mathematics. At level 5, Brentwood Prep pupils scored over twice the national average (it takes approximately eighteen months for a pupil to move up one level).
